Kidney failure reorganises a life around a machine
Dialysis runs three times a week, every week, for as long as it is needed. A patient without a local slot either moves closer to one or spends a large part of every week travelling, and that arithmetic does not change with how well the patient is otherwise doing.
A planned unit of around forty stations adds real capacity, and it sits on a campus that also holds the imaging, the vascular surgery and the transplant workup that a renal patient comes to need. Beside it, a 24-hour emergency service and orthopaedic surgery are planned for the airport precinct and the communities around it, where the distance between an accident and a theatre is measured in minutes.

What is planned here
Every service below is planned and subject to regulatory approval. This centre adds capacity where demand is growing fastest, and it puts that capacity beside the imaging, the surgery and the follow-up that the same patients need.

If you are on dialysis, a local slot means three sessions a week stop deciding where you live. If you need vascular access, imaging or a transplant workup, those sit on the same campus as the chair you dialyse in. Renal replacement therapy is among the services the region is shortest of, and the one least able to wait, because a missed week is not a delayed appointment.
