Treatment timed to a cycle, in the city you live in
A couple seeking fertility treatment in this region commonly travels abroad, several times, across a cycle that is already demanding. The treatment is timed to the woman's cycle, which means the travel is timed to it too, and the cost of flights and accommodation is carried on top of the treatment itself.
A planned in-country service takes the travelling out of the hardest part. Both partners are investigated from the outset instead of assuming where the answer lies, and the assessment, the laboratory, the theatre and the follow-up sit at one address, so a scan that has to happen on a particular morning happens without a flight attached to it.

What is planned here
Every service below is planned and subject to regulatory approval. The service is built around both partners, because infertility is investigated in both, and treating only one of them is how couples lose years.

- In-vitro fertilisation and embryo transfer
- Male-factor investigation and treatment, including ICSI and surgical sperm retrieval
- Fertility preservation before cancer treatment, for women and for men
- Reproductive surgery, and investigation of recurrent pregnancy loss
- Assessment of both partners from the first appointment
- Gynaecology and maternity on the same campus, for the pregnancy that follows
What this means for you
You are assessed together, and the answer is looked for in both of you from the first appointment. Treatment that has to happen on a particular day happens in the city you live in, so the calendar belongs to the cycle instead of to an airline. If a cancer diagnosis arrives before you have had the chance to start a family, fertility preservation sits on the same campus as the oncology that makes it urgent.

Fertility treatment is among the most common reasons people in this region cross a border for medicine, and among the least suited to crossing one, because the timing is not theirs to choose. Gaborone is about ninety minutes in the air from most of the region, close enough that a cycle can be managed without a family rearranging its life around each appointment.
