What it is

Radiation oncology already exists in Botswana, but it runs on single linear accelerators, and the comparative literature records wait times and downtime that send patients abroad. TEMCO's planned oncology centre is designed differently: two linear accelerators give redundancy and throughput, so a machine going offline for service does not stop treatment. Around that core sits next-generation IMRT, VMAT, SBRT and SRS planning, HDR brachytherapy, PET/CT staging and an integrated multidisciplinary team — surgical, medical and radiation oncology reviewing each case together, under one roof.

The differentiation is resilience and ceiling, not a first: it is the higher-throughput, next-tier radiation oncology capacity that keeps Botswana's complex cases at home and gives the wider region a reference point for cancer care.
