TEMCO has received formal SEZA-qualifying status from Botswana's Special Economic Zone Authority for its 130-bed specialised hospital at the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport SEZ.
The SEZA framework unlocks two material fiscal benefits for the project:
- 5% corporate income tax rate for the first 10 years of operation (versus the 22% standard Botswana rate), stepping up to 10% from year 11 onward - 0% customs duty on imported medical equipment qualifying under the SEZA capital goods schedule
Both benefits are modelled into TEMCO's 25-year financial projection. At the scale of capital equipment required for a first-in-country cath lab, linac radiation therapy system, robotic surgery platform and imaging suite, the 0% duty rate alone represents a significant capital-cost reduction versus a non-SEZA build.
The SEZA status also positions TEMCO as a medical tourism destination within the SADC region, where comparable tertiary care currently requires travel to South Africa or India.
